Centre expansion and film studies initiatives

The Centre is currently expanding with new appointments in Arab and South Asian media. Dr Dina Matar has been appointed as lecturer in Arab media, and we are advertising for a Teaching Fellow in South Asian media and media theory.The Centre is also participating in a series of initiatives in film studies:

  • 2007 Season of Film Master classes featuring Abbas Kiarostami, Terence Davies and Nick Broomfield.
  • Spring and Summer Extra-mural evening courses in the Theory and Practice of Film, Video and Screen Media (beginning 1st April 2007) www.insighteducation.org.uk
  • Retrospective of Iranian film-maker Rakshan Bani-Etemad, with the BFI, April-May 2008.
  • Imagining Bali through Film: 3rd November 2007, Brunei Gallery Lecture Theatre, SOAS, 10.00 – 17.00 in collaboration with the Royal Anthropological Institute and the University of London Screen Studies Group.

The Centre is also supporting a range of initiatives from our students. These include the student collective Sacred Media Cow who will be organizing a conference Indian Mass Media and the Politics of Change, a one-day conference for Postgraduates & Early Career Researchers, SOAS, Friday 19th October 2007.
