The theme of the second annual Igbo Language Conference is ‘Igbo Language and Performance’, which focuses on the relationship and relevance of language and culture in performance. The two day conference will comprise of plenary panels and Igbo performances which will include live music, masquerades, a short drama production, film screenings, dance and folk stories.

At this year's conference there will be a strong Nollywood presence with discussions centring on Igbo language and culture vis-à-vis the Nigerian film industry.

Keynote speakers:

  • Amaka Igwe - Pioneer of modern Nigerian TV and Nollywood production, whose productions include 'Rattle Snake', 'Violated', 'Checkmate' and 'Fuji’s House of Commotion'
  • Obi Emelonye - Nollywood director whose productions include 'Last Flight to Abuja' and 'Mirror Boy'
  • Chika Unigwe - Author of the 2012 NLNG prize winning novel On Black Sisters' Street
  • Dr Akin Oyètádé –Senior Lecturer in Yorùbá at SOAS

The registration fee is £35 standard both days/£20 standard single day,  £25 students both days/£15 student single day.
