Week-long training course for a group of Chinese government officials hosted by the newly formed SOAS China Institute
25 November 2013
In November 2013, the newly formed SOAS China Institute hosted a week-long training course for a group of Chinese government officials. The course, entitled "Modern Industrial Systems - Industrial Policy and Urban Change in Comparative Perspective", covered a range of topics including finance, urban development, industrial policy and labour, and provided a comparative perspective on each topic between the UK, Europe and China. The course was enhanced by a visit to Barclays Bank where senior managers gave a presentation to the group, followed by a tour of the trading floors. The course was simultaneously translated from English into Mandarin, allowing for regular interaction between participants and speakers. The course ended with an award ceremony where participants were handed a Certificate of Attendance by the SCI Director and course convenor, Professor Michel Hockx.
