SOAS Professor’s latest publication in ‘Brian Sewell’s essential art books of 2013’

The latest publication by Anna Contadini, Professor of the History of Islamic Art at SOAS, University of London has been listed in the highly respected art critic Brian Sewell’s essential art books of 2013.

The Renaissance and the Ottoman World
, edited by Professor Contadini and Dr Claire Norton, Senior Lecturer in Islamic History at St Mary's University College, brings together the latest research on the cultural, intellectual, and commercial interactions between Western Europe and the Middle East during the Renaissance.

Brian Sewell, who writes for the Evening Standard, described the publication as adding “patches of great depth and insight."

Professor Contadini said: "I am really pleased that a renowned art critic such as Brian Sewell has chosen The Renaissance and the Ottoman World among the best art books of the year 2013. His choice highlights the importance of studying European art in a global context, and, in this particular case, emphasising the connections between Renaissance Art and its Middle Eastern contemporaries".
