A photography exhibition at SOAS, University of London brings rural beauty and modern city life in China to heart of London to celebrate Chinese New Year.
'Glimpse of China', co-organised by the London Confucius Institute at SOAS and the SOAS Language Centre, will run until Lunar New Year on 31 January at the Wolfson Gallery, SOAS.
The photographs on display are a selection of winning works from a national photography competition, which involved professional photographers from China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau.
The photographers were inspired by the beauty of nature, the rich variety of minority cultures and vibrant city life of China.
This event follows a series of workshops at the V&A museum run as part of the Masterpieces of Chinese Painting exhibition. The theme of the workshops was Chinese Paper Cutting. Visitors where given a demonstration and a short talk on the history of paper cutting, and a short introduction to Chinese characters. A 'Try It at Home' kit was provided to the audience as a gift. Over 300 persons, including 70 children, attended the workshops.
