Friday the 31st of January is the first day of the Chinese Year of the Horse. SOAS London Confucius Institute proudly sponsored the Chinese New Year Party organised by students from the Department of China and Inner Asia. The show, an annual tradition, was a huge success attended by over 250 people, including SOAS students and members of the general public.
The show was organised 3rd year students. Students from various Chinese programs and courses presented events such as singing, musical performances, dancing, quizzes, Chinese talk show etc. The party was also attended by department staff and the Director of SOAS Professor Paul Webley. The annual Chinese New Year Show is SOAS’s own way of welcoming the new year, and of giving students and members of the public an insight into rich Chinese culture. This year a team of Chinese primary school students were invited to visit SOAS on the day and their dance ‘ Thousand hands’ Bodhisattva’ (千手觀音) opened the curtain of the four hours party.
The London Confucius Institute would like to thank the 3rd year Chinese students for organising such a wonderful event, and would also like to thank all the performers and the audience for their impressive contributions.
