Bridging the Divide: developing and applying design methodologies for cross-disciplinary practice - workshop call for participants
Date: Saturday 15 March 2014
Time: 09:30 - 18:00
Location: Lecture Theatre, Central Saint Martins, Kings Cross
We would like to invite 25 participants for a one-day research symposium and workshop on cross-cultural collaboration. The symposium is organised around the exhibition The Craft of Ubuntu: An Exploration of Collaboration through Making, which is being shown in Cape Town and London as part of the World Design Capital 2014 official programme.
The speakers include guests from WDC2014 Cape Town: Professor Mugendi M'Rithaa (Cape Peninsula University of Technology), Andile Dyalvane (South African ceramicist ), Dr Katherine Ladd (University of Brighton), Dr Kirsten Scott (RCA), Sarah Rhodes (CSM) and John Ballyn (Independent Design Consultant).
Whilst the morning presentations will be on cross-disciplinary practice in an African context, the focus of the day is on wider cross-cultural collaboration in art and design research. The discourse will centre on:
- The success, and importantly, failure of such partnerships;
- The politics of working together;
- Negotiating collaboration across disciplinary and cultural borders;
- What might future collaborations look like?
If you would like to attend, please send an email with your research title to Sarah Rhodes: firstname.lastname@example.org. The deadline for applications is Friday 21 February - we look forward to hearing from you.
