Thank you to everyone who has expressed an interest in the Alphawood Scholarships at SOAS. There was an overwhelming response from a wide range of applicants and we received over 90 applications from nine out of the 10 countries within the focus of the Scholarships. The successful candidates will be announced in May.

The Alphawood Scholarships are part of the £15m Southeast Asian Art Academic Programme at SOAS funded by Alphawood Foundation, Chicago. The Programme aims to make a transformational impact to the understanding and preservation of Southeast Asian Buddhist and Hindu art through study and research and by building and supporting a network of organisations and individuals in the Southeast Asian region who share this vision.

The cohort of Alphawood Scholarship students will use their learning, skills and talents in galleries, museums, heritage organisations, universities, government departments and other institutions in the Southeast Asia region, particularly in the countries of Brunei, Burma (Myanmar), Cambodia, East Timor, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand or Vietnam where Buddhist and Hindu art is prevalent.

Applications for 2015 entry will be open from 1 November 2014.
