The London Confucius Institute had the pleasure of visiting the secondary school of Stanchester Academy in Yeovil on the 1st of July 2014 for an inspiring China Day.
More than 800 pupils participated in the China Day and learnt about various aspects of Chinese cultures, languages and cuisine. The colleagues of the London Confucius Institute provided the children with various interactive talks on language related issues such as Chinese characters and pinyin in the morning. Especially trying to discover which character corresponded to which picture was very exciting.
For those wanting to know more about cultural differences between Britain and China, the history and culture talks allowed the children to explore gestures, food, and geography in both countries and encouraged the children to roll up their sleeves for a paper-cutting session, with wonderful lanterns and other creations as a result.
The hardest work for the children however came with the kungfu-demonstration in which they had to mimic the movements of a professional martial arts expert and demonstrate them for the whole school at the end of the day.
The London Confucius Institute wants to thank the teachers of the Modern Foreign Language department and the general administration of Stanchester Academy for a fruitful and successful China day and is looking forward to future cooperation and events!
