It is one year since Armenian Studies was introduced at SOAS. To mark this happy occasion, Armenian Studies at SOAS is organising a series of Cultural events.
A series of events which will be repeated every year beginning in October 2010. The climax of these events will be the Keynote speech delivered by a prominent individual. This year we are honoured to host Professor Anne Pauwels, the new Dean of the Faculty of Languages and Cultures.
The Choice of October is not only due to the fact that it is the beginning of a new academic year, but more importantly in the Armenian religious calendar October is when the feast of Translators [Tarkmanchats] takes place. It is dedicated to the first translators of the Bible following the intervention of the Armenian alphabet by Mesrob Mashdots in the 5th century. It is widely seen a feast of literature and language.
