The MPhil Research Conference is held annually by the Politics Department and presents current research being carried out by its students. The conference pulls together the research community from within and outside SOAS including both students and faculty and aims to facilitate an exchange of ideas and critique around the thematic and methodological focus of research being taken up by students.

Research areas this year are drawn from the study of politics in Canada, UK, USA, Pakistan, Iraq, Occupied Palestinian Territories, Burma, Kenya, Rwanda, Liberia, China, Syria and South Korea. Research themes  are equally diverse ranging from questions of power and subject formation, militarism, human rights regime, european economic crisis,  civic environmentalism, security sector reform, conflict and conflict resolution norms, diaspora, identity and natural resources.
