In-house volunteering scheme in the Department of Politics at SOAS
The Department of Politics, in coordination with the Head of Careers and the Head of Widening Participation, is setting up a new scheme which will extend current volunteering opportunities for students allowing them to volunteer within SOAS itself. This would enable students to develop and/or enhance their employability skills by working on projects in a familiar and ‘safe’ environment.
Aims of the scheme
There are two main aims of the scheme:
- To develop and/or enhance students’ employability, whether in terms of skills, or experience or a greater understanding of the world of work. This will be achieved by making volunteering opportunities available to students within SOAS itself, in addition to those already accessible through the Volunteering Unit, Widening Participation and the Students’ Union.
- To assist the School in its ambition to support student volunteering and work in the community.
Objectives of the scheme
- To enable students to develop employability skills
- To enable students to enhance their employability skills
- To enable students to gain ‘real-world’ skills in a relatively ‘safe’ environment
- To enable students to gain ‘real-world’ experience in a range of settings
- To enable students to access work experience opportunities in an academic establishment
The Department of Politics will email periodic requests from interested faculty members of the Department of Politics. The criteria for each volunteer opportunity will be outlined in these email communications.
