The SOAS Geography department moved to King's College, London (KCL) August 2001, creating the largest group of academic geographers in the UK specialising in developing countries. Based in KCL, the new department has an international reputation for research and teaching in a broad range of fields and regional contexts. Its teaching programme has been rated "Excellent" in the government assessment of all British universities. In a joint honours geography degree, KCL provides the geography element, while SOAS offers a second subject with an explicitly African and/or Asian focus. Applications for the single subject degree should be made to KCL alone. Combined BA Geography honours degrees are available with all SOAS subjects (duration 3 or 4 years), with the geography component drawn from course units within the single honours degree. Applications for combined honours degrees should be made to SOAS alone.

Student Profile
Liv Hernaes - BA Geography & Development Studies
Before coming to SOAS I studied Sociology at the University of Oslo and went travelling to Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia. I chose SOAS because of its good reputation and because it would give me a possibility to choose courses not available to me in Norway. To study in such a culturally diverse environment as SOAS makes the experience complete. Viewing education as a struggle for knowledge, SOAS has provided me with a critical awareness and challenged me intellectually as well as socially.
