SOAS Additional Study Support Funds - for September 2012 entry
Description:
The SOAS Additional Study Support fund is for students who may face unforeseen financial hardship during the course of their studies. SOAS will be awarding a total of £20,000 to the students who meet the criteria below.
Number of awards available:
Not applicable - however this is not an unlimited fund so application will not result in automatic payment
Application process:
You must apply for means-tested support from your funding authority via www.gov.uk/student-finance. When you make your application for student support, you must ensure you give consent for your information to be shared with us. If your parents are submitting their financial information, they must also ensure they give their consent. This will allow us to view your details on a portal at the Student Finance website. The portal will only provide the information we need to assess your entitlement to an Award.
Criteria:
- You must be from a group under-represented at SOAS
- You must be undertaking your first undergraduate degree (students who currently hold a degree or who are transferring from another Higher Education degree will not be eligible)
- You must have started your degree in September 2012 as this fund is to support students paying the higher £9,000 fees
- You must ordinarily be resident in England
- Your household income must be less than £25,000 as assessed by Student Finance England (SFE)
- You must have applied for all available funding
Note
SOAS has many diverse groups but would particularly like to support:
- students from low participation neighbourhoods,
- students from lower socio-economic groups,
- students with disabilities,
- students from black and ethnic minority groups,
- students from a school with an above regional average of students on free school meals,
- students from a school where a low percentage of students achieve 5 A-C GCSEs.
Please note that meeting these listed criteria alone will not guarantee this award as these are limited in number.
