Applying to do a PhD at SOAS
Thinking of doing a PhD at SOAS? These pages provide you with all the information that you will need.
An important first step will be to contact a relevant department at SOAS with some ideas in the form of a research proposal. Different departments may have different requirements for an initial proposal, but in general you will need to include the following details:
- A provisional research topic
- Reasons for choosing this topic
- Some suggested research questions
- An outline of research methods
- Expected outcomes
- Preliminary bibliography
It should be stressed at this stage a finalised proposal is not required. However, the information you give should allow the department to evaluate the feasibility and relevance of your project.
