Burmese for Burmese Speakers

Course books - Burmese for Burmese speakers

  • For students who can already speak Burmese, but want to learn to read the script or to handle the literary style (e.g. children of Burmese parents living abroad), the best materials at present are the Adult Reader publications developed for the Literacy Campaign in Burma. They can be studied with the help of a parent or other literate Burmese speaker. SOAS library has copies of catalogue number GPC418/231199.
  • World Vision Myanmar has prepared three slim volumes designed to help native speakers to learn to read and write Burmese. There is one set for adults and one for children.

(Inquiries for the above to World Vision Myanmar, No 16, Shin Saw Pu Road, Ahlone Township, Yangon, Myanmar. Phone +95 (1) 525191, 527502. Fax +95 (1)527502. Or contact Justin Watkins at SOAS for photocopies).
