Research Degrees

Burmese (Myanmar) language study at SOAS, University of London - Research degrees

Supervision is provided for research in the literature and linguistics of Burma. The specific topic for research is chosen by the student in consultation with his/her supervisor after an initial survey of his/her field of interest.

Eligibility:

Students for research degrees must have at least a good BA in Burmese or an equivalent qualification.

Duration:

The course of study for MPhil requires 2 years, and for PhD 3 years. All research students register initially for the MPhil degree. The registration is converted to PhD when the student's supervisors are satisfied that the student will complete the course satisfactorily. Students may also register for "non-degree research" which enables them to use SOAS facilities and attend courses for one year without taking their research to the level of MPhil or PhD.
