Teaching

Along with developing the ELAR archive, I co-ordinate various training progmrammes in documentation methodology and multimedia.

Research

Over the last 15 years I have developed software for language research, publication, and education; established and run web sites at the Australian Institute for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies (AIATSIS) , the WWW Virtual Library for Aboriginal Languages of Australia, the Federation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Languages , and HRELP; and was co-author (with Peter Austin) of the first web hypertext bilingual dictionary (the Gamilaraay/Kamilaroi dictionary). My conventional publications include the textbook "Australia's Indigenous Languages"M, and various papers on lexicography, the Internet, and multimedia. I produced multimedia CD-ROMs for a number of endangered languages: Paakanytji (Broken Hill area, with Luise Hercus), Yolngu-Matha (northeast Arnhem Land, with Michael Christie), Warrungu (Queensland, with Tasaku Tsunoda), Karaim (Lithuania, with Eva Csato), and Yuwaalaraay/Gamilaraay (with John Giacon). Previously I ran the Aboriginal Studies Electronic Data Archive at AIATSIS.
