Current Research

Dr Yang's current research includes studies of following: development and art dealing of late Qing painting in the treaty ports, Luo Zhenyu and old leftovers of the Qing in early twentieth-century, Sino-Japanese artistic exchanges, and the re-canonizing of Chinese ink painting 1894-1949.

Biography

Dr Yang researches principally on the Chinese painting, early photography and modern Chinese art and its interactions with Japan and the West. She received her first degree from the Department of Chinese Literature at the National Taiwan University and a MA from Art History at University of Warwick. She completed her PhD at the University of London (SOAS) in Art and Archaeology. She previously taught in the Department of Art History at the University of Sussex (2004- 2007). She was also a visiting scholar at the Sinica Academia in Taiwan and the University of Heidelberg in Germany, and was awarded a postdoctoral fellowship to research and teach in Art History at the University of Chicago. Dr Yang also lectured in Hong Kong and at the British Museum on Chinese Painting.
