Thesis title:
Spatial deixis in Numèè, a language of Southern New Caledonia
Year of Study:
First year

My PhD thesis is an analysis of the spatial deixis system in Numèè, an endangered language of Southern New Caledonia. The only available data in the language consists in some recordings made during the late sixties by Jean Claude Rivierre (CNRS-LACITO, Paris) on which I am currently working. There is very little information available regarding Numèè and during my first year I am gathering background information on New Caledonian languages and preparing for fieldwork. I plan to spend 11 months in New Caledonia starting from September 2008.
