PhD Research

The aim of this research is to examine the transformation and expansion of Tripoli's urban space during the French mandate and how the impact of French intervention was reflected within the socio-political, economic and physical spaces of the city. Three elements shall be put into perspective: the social identity of Tripoli's inhabitants (an identity identified by factors such as sectarianism, nationalism and class), French colonialism and urban space (in its socio-economic and political networks and its physical dimensions).
