Biography
John joined SOAS as Director of Library and Information Services in March 2009. He has worked in a variety of roles in the university sector since 1974 and first worked for the University of London at Wye College in 1994. Immediately before joining SOAS he was at King’s College London as JISC Director of Services, responsible for managing the JISC services portfolio which includes JANET (the national academic network), JISC Collections and a number of support and advisory services. John’s primary role at SOAS is to lead Library and Information Services as a fully-converged professional services directorate, supported by five Assistant Directors responsible for specialised services in the Research Library, Information Systems, IT and Media Services and operational services supporting staff, students and external visitors across all the services. During 2010 he oversaw the first stage of the Library Transformation Project which sets out to overhaul and modernise the SOAS Library and is currently involved in fund-raising to complete the work.
