PhD Research
The purpose of my research is to understand and debate the implications of non-East Asian musicians playing East Asian music/instruments and viceversa. In the era of globalization the interest of music from individuals from one cuture to another has become more and more frequent, non only from West to East, but also from East to West. However, the way music has been learned and used by musicians from different cultures has rised questions, among others, of authenticity, appropriation and conservation that need to be addressed.
