Biography

I am a PhD candidate in the Department of the Languages and Cultures of China and Inner Asia. I graduated from Hong Kong Baptist University with a Bachelor of Arts in Chinese Language and Literature in 2005. I then obtained a Master in Cultural Studies from Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2007 and a Mphil degree in Modern Chinese Literature from Hong Kong Baptist University in 2009. After that, I applied for a doctoral degree in Modern Chinese Literature at SOAS.

My dissertation title is "The Discursive Formation of the Utopian Imagination in New Fiction, 1902-1911". By treating the utopian imagination in new fiction as a product of discursive formation, my research aims at showing a complex picture of the origin, the process and the result of the formation. My research interests include modern Chinese literature especially fiction from the late imperial and the post-Mao periods and popular culture.
