Biography

Architectural History and Heritage Conservation in Europe and the Far East, Chinese History, Ancient Chinese Architecture and Archaeology.

Research

Cultural influences and transmission of techniques for building and architectural ornament between China and neighbouring regions.  The material traces of the Tanguts (the Western Xia). The etymology of colour.

Experience

Background in Natural Sciences (and Law), with 30 years of business management for Shell International in Europe, the Americas and the Far East (senior posts in China/HK), initiating and coordinating large petrochemical investments. More recent Interests have included Art History, Architectural History, Chinese Ceramics and (particularly in the UK) heritage conservation. Presently engaged in independent research and freelance lecturing.
