PhD Research

My research will set out to assess the extent to which the World Bank theory of a suitable 'investment climate' is played out in real-life investment decisions made by businesses seeking to establish themselves in new territories.  Through a series of semi-structured interviews with business representatives in Sri Lanka I will seek to establish the extent to which the host state legal system was considered a relevant topic of inquiry prior to investment, and if investigated, the extent to which the features of the legal system influenced the investment decisions made.

My research will also ask to what extent sectoral differences and investor nationality may impact on answers to the above.
