Biography

I read Modern History at Oxford University, followed by an M.Phil in Modern Chinese Studies. After a spell working at a London-based literary agency that specialised in Chinese literature, I studied for an MA in Modern Chinese Literature at SOAS. I have returned to SOAS as a research student following a year studying Mandarin at the National Taiwan Normal University, Taipei. 

My research focuses on contemporary urban fiction. I look at expressions of agency and resistance to China's socioeconomic changes since the reform era and how these expressions interact with representations of masculinity.
