Biography

The arts and cultures of the western Himalayas; the arts of northern India and Nepal.

Research

Yashaswini Chandra’s main area of research is the arts and cultures of the western Himalayas (including the Indian states of Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, and western Tibet). In this context, major research themes include: sacred art and architecture, ritual and pilgrimage; painting traditions; geography and culture; culture and politics; multiculturalism; cultural change; the Indian hill station; colonial art and architecture; and historiography.
