Biography

I graduated from Ruhr-University Bochum (RUB, Germany), where I did two degrees, one in East Asian Studies (M.A.) and one in Economics (Dipl. Oec.). With the help of a scholarship of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) I was able to spend one year at Sichuan University in Chengdu, PR China, where I followed courses in Chinese language and Chinese legal philosophy. Back in Germany, I worked as student assistant at the Richard- Wilhelm Translation Centre [for Chinese literature] at RUB and later as teaching assistant in the department of East Asian Economics.

After having worked for several years as a freelance journalist in Düsseldorf (Germany) and Key Account Manager in Barcelona (Spain), I decided to return to academia in 2010 for a Master in Sinology at SOAS.

PhD Research

My current research deals with postsocialist urban spatiality in contemporary Chinese cultural production. I focus on the symbolism and lived experience engendered by monumental architecture and space as seen through the gaze of mainland fiction, artworks and film.
