Laia Manonelles Moner holds a PhD in Art History from the University of Barcelona. She is a lecturer professor at the University of Barcelona and she has taught contemporary Chinese art in the Master of Chinese studies at the University Pompeu Fabra of Barcelona (2010-211). In addition, she’s a member of the research group Art, Architecture and Digital Society (University of Barcelona). She collaborates with the research groups GREGA. Research Group on General Aesthetics and Anthropology (plastic arts, theatre, action art, and cinema, University of Barcelona and the Theatre Institute in Barcelona) and InterAsia. Interculturality in East Asia (Autonomous University of Barcelona). She curated the exhibition Constructing China: Visions of a Transformation (2010) at the Institut d’Estudis Ilerdencs in Lleida. Laia Manonelles Moner is also the author of the book Arte experimental en China, conversaciones con artistas (Experimental art in China, conversations with artists, 2011).


Her research focuses on Chinese art in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries; performance art in China; Interactions and cultural relations between China and the West; Chinese experimental art and trans-national exhibition practice, Chinese contemporary art and its reception in the Euro-American context.
