PhD Research

I am investigating the relations between the state, foreign capital and labour in Lao PDR with special reference to labour within special economic zones and manufacturing industries. I am interested in how the Lao state is developing its institutions in order to manage the conjunction of foreign capital and local labour, and so how emerging class relations are mediated through the state.
Industrial development in Lao PDR is taking place within the context of advancing regionalisation projects such as the Asian Development Bank-sponsored Greater Mekong Subregion project and so I also enquire as to how Lao PDR and Lao labour are integrated into wider regional and global production networks and development processes.
