My research project looks at the short stories of Zakariyya Tamir (b.1931) in the context of Syrian and Arabic contemporary literature; it looks further at the features of this celebrated writer, and also at the political and historical meaning of his works and it draws a parallel between his short stories and the history of Syria during the past six decades. My goal is also to research the forcefulness of his description in reporting Syria and the Middle East in order to track the changes in his art and relate them to the social and political changes in Syria. In other words I will try to articulate the relationship between the literary form of his short stories and his intellectual and socio-political position and perspective.
