Sana Shah is the Executive Officer for the SOAS South Asia Institute and has been with the Institute since its establishment in January 2014. Along with her work for SOAS, she is currently pursuing a PhD at Royal Holloway, University of London, focusing on political activities of the Pakistani diaspora in London.
Shah holds two Masters degrees in Political Science and International Development from the University of Vienna. She has studied at the Universite de Montreal, during an exchange semester in 2009 and in 2012 she worked as a Visiting Scholar for the Department of Middle Eastern, South Asian, and South African Studies (MESAAS) at Columbia University.
Along with her academic background, Shah has a strong policy background. She has worked for the United Nations as well as the Austrian Foreign Ministry of European and International Affairs. Using her passion for Pakistan and South Asia she founded and chaired the Austrian South Asia Platform Talaash - Young Researchers and Artists working on South Asia (2008-2013). She also worked for the British Pakistan Foundation as an Outreach Coordinator prior to joining the SOAS South Asia Institute.
