This course will help staff recognise mental health issues and discuss how to provide appropriate support. Participants will be from SOAS and the wider London Higher Education community.
The course aims to:
- Provide help to prevent the mental health problems developing into a more serious state
- Promote the recovery of good mental health
- Provide comfort to a person experiencing a mental health problem
- Raise awareness of mental health issues in the community
- Reduce stigma and discrimination
Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) does not teach people to be therapists. However, it does teach people how to recognise the symptoms of mental health problems, how to provide initial help and how to guide a person towards appropriate professional help.
Mental Health First Aid is approved by Royal Society for Public Health.
Please note: As part of the course, we will be covering subjects that some people may find sensitive, including suicide.
To book you can apply for this course in one of three ways:
- Online using the Staff Development Online Booking Form
