As part of its duty of care to staff the School has put in place a policy, procedures and guidelines to manage sickness absence. This session offers managers practical advice on implementing the policy and gives managers the opportunity to work with a variety of example case studies.
By the end of the workshop participants will be able to:
- identify the responsibilities of managers in handling sickness absence;
- understand the three main types of sickness absence and how to support staff in each case;
- conduct an effective return to work interview;
- identify other areas of support available for staff members;
- understand legislation in relation to sickness absence.
The workshop will provide participants with an opportunity to look at how to differentially manage long term absence, frequent short term absence and occasional short term absence, and the role of the return to work interview. It will look at other areas of support available for staff via HR or Occupational Health, and consider a number of case studies.
