Registration With The Police

You may have an instruction on your visa sticker or biometrics ID card that says you must register with the police. Check your passport to see if you have this stamp. Students who are accompanied by a spouse or other dependants should check the stamp in each passport.

If you are required to register, you must normally do so within seven days of arrival in the UK. However, SOAS is part of a new scheme allowing our new students to begin the registration process as part of enrolment.

To register with the police, collect a form at enrolment, complete it and return it to the Registry department between the 7th and 31st October 2013 with 2 passport photos and copies of your visa and passport personal details page.

You will then be given a letter by Registry. You should then go to the address below (3 weeks after submitting the form) to complete registration. You must complete registration by 13th December 2013.

You should go between 9.00am and 4pm Monday to Friday to the:
Overseas Visitors Records Office
180 Borough High Street
London, SE1 1LH
Tel: 020 7230 1208

The office is open 9.00 am – 4.00 pm Monday – Friday.
The nearest Underground Stations are Borough, Elephant and Castle, or London Bridge.

You must take with you:
  • £34 registration fee
  • Your passport
  • Letter from Registry
  • Two passport sized photographs (photographs must be cut to passport size and stapled to the completed proforma prior to attending).
  • A copy of the identity page of your passport
  • A copy of the Visa page from your passport
  • A copy of your Biometric Card (Only if applicable)

If you change your address or renew your leave to remain in the UK, you must take your certificate to any police station within eight days to be amended. Keep your registration certificate safe.
