NSS Results 2011/12
The academic year 2011/12 saw the eighth National Student Survey.
The highest scores again this year are for questions covering teaching on our courses. The overall satisfaction rate was down slightly by 2% on the previous year to 84%.
Methodology
Students’ responses are collected using the Likert response scale (from strongly disagree to strongly agree), with these responses being converted to a numeric value between 1 (strongly disagree) and 5 (strongly agree). An average is then taken to give the responses detailed below.
A ‘reliability threshold’ is enforced by the organisers of the survey. This means that response rates in any department must exceed 50% in order for the results of that department to be counted.
The figures given below are taken from the NSS Dissemination site, and are based on all 422 responses. This response rate represented 69% of eligible students which is in line with the national average and a 4% increase on the School’s figure from last year.

Next Steps
The NSS 2012 results identified areas where further improvements are needed, specifically in relation to Assessment and Feedback and Academic Support.
The results are discussed at all key committees in Term 1. The results are also discussed at the Heads Forum. Departmental action plans for 2011 have been reviewed and updated for session 2012-13 based on these findings. Executive Board will monitor progress with action plans specifically in relation to coursework turnaround times and student support.
