Erasmus student from Università degli Studi di Napoli “L’Orientale”, September 2011 - June 2012
What courses did you take at SOAS?
- Intermediate Japanese 1
- Modern Japan
- Introduction to the Art and Archaeology of East Asia
- Mysticism in the Great Traditions
What did you enjoy most about your academic studies?
Probably the method of studying. Writing essays was difficult, but I really felt I was producing something and talking about my own ideas and topic I liked. Moreover, I had to read many interesting books on these topics. The Library was a great support and it is another thing I greatly enjoyed. It is easy to use and find things and there is always something useful.
How did you spend your free time?
I tried to do as much as possible, since it was my only year in London. So I joined some SOAS societies, like the Japan society, which was very interesting. During the weekend I went to clubs, pubs or friends’ places. I have also travelled as travelling from London is easy and cheap. The place that I liked the most was Scotland. Highlands are maybe the most beautiful thing I have ever seen.
Finally, I spent my time visiting London, which is full of amazing things to do and see, like beautiful parks, museums and original places.
