Abstract:

This seminar sets out to analyse campaign strategies by the major political parties during Taiwan's presidential and legislative elections in January 2012. A group of experts will further explain the election results as well as examine their impact on Taiwan's domestic politics and external relations.

About the Speakers:

Dr Dafydd Fell is the Senior Lecturer in Taiwan Studies at the Centre for Financial and Management Studies and the Department of Political and International Studies of SOAS, University of London. He is also the Deputy Director of the SOAS Centre of Taiwan Studies and is the coordinator for the European Association of Taiwan Studies. His previous publications include Party Politics in Taiwan (Routledge, 2005), What has Changed? Taiwan’s KMT and DPP Eras in Comparative Perspective (Harrassowitz, 2006) and the four-volume edited work Politics of Modern Taiwan (Routledge, 2008). He is also the Series Editor for the new Routledge Research on Taiwan Series.

Dr Malte Kaeding is Lecturer in International Politics at University of Surrey. He has published on electioneering and identity in Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau. Further research areas include identity politics and identity changes, elections and election campaigning, political marketing, political party development and democratisation as well as youth and politics in the Greater China area.

Dr Douglas Fuller is Lecturer in International Business and Comparative Management at King's College London. He is also Liaison Director for King's College London and Renmin University of China. His research interests include technology management in emerging economies, the impact of offshoring on technical skills generation in advanced economies, as well as economic and technology policymaking in developing countries under globalization.
