Information for Students

Year Abroad Students (Undergraduate students only)

If you are returning from a Year Abroad, or you are about to commence a Year Abroad, the information here will inform you on what you need to do to ensure that you complete the required re-register for 2014/15.

Students on Year Abroad in 2014/15

If you are on your Year Abroad in 2014/15, you must complete the online re-registration process. If this is not completed, you will not have registered for your Year Abroad and the year may not count towards your final degree.

If you are financing your tuition fees by a student loan, you need to ensure that you have made your application to Student Finance England to ensure that payments are made.

You should follow the instructions for online re-registration on SOAS Online Student Services completing the following sections only:

Confirm My Details

This section will show you the programme of study that you will be following and you should enter this section of the site to verify and update the essential data that we are required to hold. Please ensure that you check the information carefully and complete each page of this section.

Within this section, you will be asked to confirm how you are being funded (self-funded, student loan etc). This element of the section does not instigate any kind of payment, it is purely for our statutory returns.

Fee Payment and Funding

Within SOAS Online Student Services, you will be able to pay your fees using the SOAS Web Payments site. The following cards are accepted: Visa, Mastercard, Eurocard, Switch, Maestro, Solo and Delta.
Tuition fees are payable in full before or at enrolment at the beginning of the academic year.

If you are not in receipt of a loan or other form of funding (ie you are paying your own fees), there is a fee payment by instalment option available (for which you will be charged). The minimum tuition fee for the instalment option is £1500 and the fees are paid in two equal instalments. The first instalment is due before or at enrolment and an administrative charge of £150 will be added onto this first instalment.

You do not need an invoice to pay your fees. Please cite your 6-digit student ID number as a reference.

Alternatively, if you have applied for a student loan or you are being sponsored, you will need to provide us with your loan or sponsorship details. You should do this in advance of your enrolment, as we will not be able to complete the process without this evidence. You can provide this evidence by scanning and emailing your loan or sponsorship documentation to fees@soas.ac.uk, or you can bring the document to the fees office at Vernon Square (Monday – Friday, 10am – 12noon and 2pm – 4pm).

If you require further information about payment methods, fees, loans or sponsorship, please visit Tuition Fees.

Sign up for My Courses

All returning students must select their courses for 2014/15 online. If you have any queries on this, please contact your Faculty Office.

If you are re-sitting exams in September, you will be able to select courses for 2014/15, however this will only be provisionally approved. Once your exam results are known your course choices for 2014/15 will then either be approved or rejected.

The status of your course choices will appear on your SOAS Online Student Services account. It is your responsibility to ensure that you have selected the correct number of courses and that they are all approved. Once you have completed your enrolment requirements and paid your fees, you will gain access to the BLE site, where your approved courses and relevant information about them will be visible.

If your initial choice has been rejected, you will need to log back onto SOAS Online Student Services to choose a different course. Please ensure that you remove the rejected course before you select a new choice and then resubmit.

If you need further information on what courses to choose, you should look on the relevant faculty web pages to find information about available course choices: Academic Departments.
