Biography
Alexandre Ouairy is a doctoral researcher at SOAS investigating Chinese contemporary art history.
His research explores the Post-80s generation of artists and the transformation of contemporary art practices in response to Xi’s China, examining the interplay between artists, institutions, the market economy, and censorship.
Alexandre is based in Shanghai where, for the past 20 years, he has worked as an artist and creative director in addition to lecturing in art history at the Shanghai Theatre Academy and collaborating as a visiting scholar at Jiaotong University.
Research interests
His research interests lie at the intersection of visual studies, critical theory, aesthetics, and postcolonialism.
