About this event

This academic year, SOAS Linguistics is turning 90.

Founded in 1932 as the first department of General Linguistics in the UK, SOAS Linguistics has since been unique in its focus on the linguistic diversity of Africa, Asia and the Middle East.

You are all invited to our reception celebrating this very special anniversary on Wednesday 14 June 2023, 6 8pm.  The reception will include a panel discussion on linguistics, language communities, impact and the role of SOAS, followed by drinks. 

  • Panel discussion: Khalili Lecture Theatre (Main Building), 6–7pm

  • Drinks: Cloister (Paul Webley Wing), 7-8pm
