About this event

Young China Watchers (YCW) is a dynamic group of China-focused young professionals. Through regular roundtables and talks with senior figures in the China academic, policy and business communities, it provides a chance for engaged individuals to interact and discuss the most pressing issues emerging from China today. Through our growing global network, we seek to foster the next generation of China thought-leaders.

After the success of the last three years, the London chapter is pleased to launch the mentorship programme for its fourth year. We are calling for applications from students and early career young professionals in the YCW London network to participate.  Each Mentee will be partnered to their own Mentor based on their career interests. Our Mentors are drawn from the London network, and are experienced China-professionals from a variety of fields, such as finance, policy, business, journalism, technology, and research.

The Programme will run from November 2020 – July 2021, during which time Mentors and Mentees will meet regularly to discuss career opportunities, aspirations and growth. Group meetings with the wider cohort will take place monthly. Through the Programme, mentees and their mentors will have opportunities to develop new friendships and to attend networking events. Mentees will be expected to actively drive and contribute to the relationship with their Mentor, and expected to commit to attending the monthly meetup sessions.

Given the current circumstances around COVID-19, all networking, events and meetups will be run in an online format until further notice.

We are now seeking applications to join the programme as a Mentee, with the following criteria:

  • Member of the YCW London network with previous participation in YCW events
  • Based in greater London for the duration of the programme
  • Less than three years of professional experience
  • Demonstrable interest in and dedication to building a China-related career
  • Ability to commit to attending and participating in monthly meetups

If you would like to be considered as one of our YCW mentees, please write to our Mentorship Director, Rose Martin at: london@youngchinawatchers.com by 31 October 2020 with the following:

  • A cover letter to be sent in the body of your email outlining why you should be selected as a YCW Mentee (no more than 200 words).
  • Your CV.
