12:00 GOSHAWK

English Folk meets Siberian Roots!

The rumbling of horses’ hooves and ethereal whistling of burning arrows of Inner Asia’s nomad warriors once struck terror into the hearts of the West. The Goshawk Project transforms those sounds with more familiar yet mystical traditional imagery as Tuvan master musician Radik Tülüsh’s undertone- and overtone-singing meets Richard Partridge’s bass resonances and Carole Pegg’s hoarse fiddle.

East London Sefardi Songs Revisited

Los Desterrados bring vibrant new life to the ancient music of the Sephardic Jews. Featuring traditional instruments such as the cajon and oud with vocals in Ladino, the language of the Sephardic Jews, the original arrangements and rousing rhythms Los Des wield are heavily influenced by the music they've all grown up on as native North Londoners - rock n' roll, jazz, folk, flamenco, funk and soul.

Cuban Salsa with a serious groove

Sarabanda are a powerful quintet with a far bigger sound! Playing a range of Cuban music including Son from the 40s and 50s, as popularised by Buena Vista Social Club, through to modern-day hot Timba and Salsa. Perfect music for a Sunday afternoon; don’t forget your dancing shoes!

16:00 HAMSA

A whirlwind journey from shtetl to souk

Bringing together the music of Jewish eastern Europe, Greece and Turkey, Hamsa takes us on a journey that not only crosses continents but also takes us deep into ourselves. Melding elements of Klezmer, Fasil (Ottoman court music) and Demotika (Greek folk songs) into a new repertoire and using rhythms and grooves both reminiscent of the shtetl and the souk.
