As the 75th anniversary of the partition is being marked in 2022, this mushaira will bring together voices of the multiverse which challenge and defy religious majoritarianism and highlight how communities have continued to exist in multiple and overlapping ways in South Asia and the diaspora.

This event will showcase talent and creativity reflecting continuing connections and resistances which strive to challenge communal discourses on the partition seeking to separate and emphasize difference and discord. It will draw on rich and diverse forms of poetry, music and spoken word from South Asia and the diaspora which are the foundations for alternative visions of the multiverse.

With performers Babar Luck, Moushumi Bhowmick , DJ Shahrukh, Nabihah Iqbal, Rasika Ajotikar and SOAS student contributions.

The Border Crossings project, from Professor Navtej K..Purewal, Dr Eleanor Newbigin and Tajender Sagoo will also have a display on the west wall which will present the work of artists Graciela Magnoni a street photographer based in Singapore, and Amarjeet Nandra a textile artist and educator based in London. Both artists use different forms to narrate new stories about the partition of 1947.

The Border Crossings project seeks to examine how public narratives and memories of the partition of 1947 have developed and changed over time. The project uses the South Asia diaspora in the UK as a vantage point from which to reflect on the partition.
