produced the Turkish Republic.

Benjamin Fortna is Professor of the History of the Middle East. He holds degrees from Yale, Columbia and the University of Chicago. His teaching and research is devoted to the social, cultural and political history of the late Ottoman Empire and the Turkish Republic.
