Biography
Dr. Hanns B. Kendel’s research focuses on international security, international relations and diplomatic studies. He teaches courses on Foreign Policy Analysis, Diplomatic Studies and International Relations. As a Fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy he pursues his specific interests in remote studies and the pedagogies of practical learning. His research focuses on diplomacy and negotiations as an element of international relations. He is also studying the role of the private sector in Diplomacy with a focus on the areas of professional development and e-diplomacy. His doctoral thesis (completed at the SOAS Law School) investigates the terror court assemblage through two case studies from India. It focuses on narratives about terrorism and their impact on legal, conceptual and international dimensions of counter terrorism regimes. He has conducted field research on the role of courts, civil society and other actors in security. (Based at the Centre for Policy Research in Delhi.) Before joining CISD he has taught in a course on the legal systems of Asia and Africa at the SOAS Law School as well as worked in the corporate sector on security and strategic consulting. He sits on the board of directors for Shikho the leading Ed-Tech provider in Bangladesh.
