As a non-EEA student how can I obtain a visa to study at SOAS?
You will need to request a Confirmation of Acceptance for Study number (CAS) before you can submit your Student visa application.
We highly recommend that all prospective non-EEA applicants visit the UKVI website for up to date information about visa regulations and procedures.
The UKCISA (UK Council for International Student Affairs) website also contains useful information about studying in the UK.
Additionally, please refer to the International section on our website.
Note that US Nationals do require a student visa to come and study in the UK.
A student cannot apply for a student visa more than three months before the start of their course.
I need an unconditional offer to apply for my visa. Could you please send me an unconditional offer?
We cannot send an unconditional offer until all the entry requirements have been met. Only then can we issue a Confirmation of Acceptance for study (CAS) that will allow you to apply for a visa.
Therefore if your offer is conditional on your submitting academic or any other evidence, we cannot make your offer unconditional until you have fulfilled the conditions of your offer letter.
I am applying for a student visa and need a CAS from SOAS- How do I get one?
SOAS will assign a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies number (CAS) to all students requiring a visa who have firmly accepted an Unconditional Offer. The CAS details will be sent via email.
The CAS number itself will need to be requested. You can find the form here: PGT-Standard CAS Request Form (pdf; 315kb) . Once completed please email the request form to firstname.lastname@example.org. Details of how to request a CAS will also be included in your offer letter.
You can find more information about CAS and applying for a visa on the International Student page
I need my SOAS student reference number to complete my CAS request form. Can I use my application ID number?
You can use your 7 digit application number or your SOAS 6 digit student reference number if it has already been communicated to you to complete your CAS request form.
I have a valid student visa issued to study at another university? Will I be able to register on a programme at SOAS?
My English results warrant a pre-sessional English course, can I be issued with a joint CAS that will cover both the pre-sessional and my main programme of studies?
We will be able to issue a joint CAS as long as;
• you have met the school academic entry requirements
• you have to attend a 4 week or 8 week pre-sessional English course
• you have an unconditional offer for the pre-sessional
• you have paid the pre-sessional tuition fees
• you have accepted your offer and paid the £1000 deposit
