I come from a Chinese-German background, and I did a gap year in China after I completed my A Levels. China seemed like how I imagine America must have been in the early 1920s: a world of possibilities. I wanted to learn the skills to be able to do business in China, and the course at SOAS offered the chance to find out about Chinese management.
The course has been good for providing topical lectures, for example one on the Chinese stock market crisis, the week following the event.
China is changing all the time. Beijing feels like a raw diamond, which can still be shaped. I would love to work in China in a young industry, like social media, which I can help to fashion, or perhaps work in the EU in an industry with China-Europe links.
