Richard Fardon and John Campbell recently retired from SOAS after many years of service to the department and the discipline.

In order to celebrate and express our appreciation of John and Richard, the Anthropology Department will devote our regular seminar slot to a roundtable discussion on ‘Anthropology at SOAS since 1989’ (the year Richard first graced the corridors).

Questions for debate include:

What have been the distinguishing features of anthropology at SOAS?

Was there a reflexive turn at SOAS?

Has SOAS had its own localising strategies?

How can we retell the story of anthropology at SOAS from new and emerging post-colonial vantages?

Panelists will include: Andrea Cornwall, Kevin Latham, Trevor Marchand, David Mosse, David Parkin, Johan Pottier and Edward Simpson.

We look forward to welcoming friends of the department – old and new – to this event and anticipate a full house. Please arrive in a timely manner to ensure a seat.
